Biography
As a broadly interested biologist and ecologist, I specialize in the distribution, ecology, life history, and evolution of (non-native) marine and freshwater species, using both taxonomic and molecular approaches.
I am a core member of the team Genetic Fish Variation Atlas of the Netherlands which aims to generate genomic data for all fish species in the Netherlands to support effective monitoring and management of species. As of April 2026, I started as PhD candidate on this project, focusing on generating and integrating genetic data of migratory fish species into applied management. My first chapter will investigate the genetics of brook and river lamprey populations in the Netherlands. The data already indicated succesful river lamprey reproduction in the Veluwe at a site where it had previously been lost.
Furthermore, with fieldwork in the Netherlands, Ireland, France, Denmark, and Sweden during my studies and periodic work, I have gained insight into the distribution of (non-native) marine across both natural and aquaculture-related networks. In these contexts, I identified species using both taxonomic and molecular methods. My BSc thesis resulted in my first scientific publication on the establishment of non-native marine species.
Finally, diving and underwater photography as a hobby allow me to observe species in their natural environments.
