Biography
With a background in Tropical Forestry and as Licensed European Tree Technician, Joris has over 20 years’ experience in innovating and researching Urban Green Infrastructure based on healthy plant growth, water availability and layered multifunctional design. As researcher Urban Nature-based Solutions at Wageningen University and Research his projects focus on urban trees in streetscapes, blue-green roofs, circular water management and are all based on Eco-System-Functioning aiming at climate adaptation, urban resiliency and reliably providing urban ecosystem services. These systems are characterized by weighed use of resilient interfaces between the desired Biosphere and the at times required Technosphere to support natural functioning in dense urban settings.

Volunteer with the ITF for fundraising and reporting of the Carara Ecological Corridor reforestation project in Costa Rica. The project concerns actual reforestation according to the Analog Forestry principle on degraded agricultural land on the slopes of the Turrubares Mountains.
