Biography
As an educational scientist I am passionate about entrepreneurial learning. I strongly believe in the potential of the entrepreneurial mindset for people that aim to study, work and act in today’s society that is full of uncertainties. With my research and education, I prepare students and professionals for their role as entrepreneurial change agents through transdisciplinary education, so that they can navigate uncertainty and help solve societal challenges.
From 2013 till 2016, I conducted my PhD research project at the (by that time called) Education and Competence Studies Group of Wageningen University. My research focussed on the importance of human capital for organizational learning and innovation. Specifically, I investigated opportunity identification of students and professionals working for small- and medium-sized enterprises.
After my PhD, I worked as a postdoc at Utrecht University (Department of Education) and as a Learning Expert at NN-Group (in Dutch: Nationale Nederlanden). At NN-Group, I developed and implemented learning journeys for employees in collaboration with the business and external suppliers, such as a Leadership Program for executives and learning trajectories on Data Science and AI.
Currently, I work as Associate Professor at the Education and Learning Sciences Group in the topics entrepreneurial learning, transdisciplinary learning and change agency. My research, education, and impact activities centre around three main topics: 1) entrepreneurial change agents with adaptive expertise; 2) transdisciplinary learning; and 3) lifelong learning and societal impact. I am interested in the creation of evidence-based learning journeys that fit the complexity of today’s societal issues and with which we can generate societal impact as a university via research and education in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and society, consisting of businesses, municipalities, regional development agencies and other organizations. I focus both on students and professionals in my academic activities.
Next to my work for Education and Learning Sciences, I am team lead of EWUU Education Research (see website). The EWUU Alliance is the university collaboration between TU/e, UMCU, UU and WUR. We organize research activities around the research question: How can we design transdisciplinary education that fosters adaptive expertise in individuals and teams?
