C (Chisala) Lupele

Ms. Chisala Lupele is a Zambian PhD with research interests in designing and facilitating learning of multi-actors in natural resources fields towards sustainable practices and policy development using creative-arts based methods. Informed by this interest, her PhD focuses on local level transboundary fishery practice and governance along the middle of the Kwando River between Angola and Zambia. Her work aims at using creative-art based methods in understanding the constitution of the fishery practice, the legalities that influence it, and how multistakeholder interactions can aid towards policy development. New research interests arising from this work is practice led policy development from a bottom up approach in transboundary contexts and among Regional bloc countries.  

Her approach to research uses creative-arts based methods. She has worked with methods such as storytelling, photo elicitation, gallery walk, serious games and radio as a learning platform. These methods stem from her professional background in Environmental Communication where she has used some of these methods in environment-development and conservation organisations like Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Zambia, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA), and the Environmental Learning Research Center (ELRC) at Rhodes University in South Africa.

Apart from these interests, Chisala likes spending time with her family, in nature or reliving history through books and visual-audio media. Occasionally, she enjoys a good sweat from boxing at her local gym.
